Frosted Ice

frost-3
First frost growing atop the ice on Dead Dog Slough. Taken on the last day of fall. I wonder about the larger star pattern – how did that form so differently than the other tufts of frost?

  1. beautiful shot David. Could the larger display be a taller plant over shadowing the lower ones? I am enjoying the photos so much. Makes me feel like you are here with us again.

    • Thanks, Mom! They are all very small crystals of frost right on top of the ice – no plants involved. And there is nothing natural that makes a star pattern that could be inside the big crystal. It just happened. Thanks for commenting, it makes me feel closer, too.
